Manual control of A/T not working

Manual control of the gearbox does not work on my pal's truck. When the shifter is moved sideways, there is no change in the instrument panel and manual control is not working. He tows mini diggers and heavy stuff so he relies on this in hilly terrain. The microswitches on the handle/stick have been tested OK/good. I have the instrument panel on my desk and nothing obvious can be seen. Before I start touching up all soldering points; do anyone have hints to which components in the multi instrument could be at fault?

Have you tried to do a reset of the instrument cluster/dash?
